LOOK OUT HERE THEY COME!

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, or drones,  are rapidly growing in popularity and increasing work efficiency and productivity.

These drones have been around for more than two decades, but their roots date back to World War I when both the U.S and France worked on developing automatic, unmanned airplanes. Drones have become essential for many business and even governmental organizations. From companies, such as Amazon, to military purposes drones are proving to be extremely beneficial to reach places or to perform tasks in a timely and efficient manner.

Drone technology can  be divided into three categories, which include military drone technology, commercial drone technology, and personal drone technology.

Military drone technology can be used to target decoys, for combat missions, and even research. “I can remember the army corps of engineers coming to our robotics class and they shared with us how they are able to use drones to plan ahead of any mission they are about to perform and it was crazy to see how fast technology was changing,” said Arayana Klewaran, a graduate of Thomas Edison High School.

The next category is commercial drone technology and these include drones being used by businesses and organizations to make functions and productivity faster.

“I know that Amazon is one  company that is currently working on advancing the drone technology field by having drones deliver their packages,”  said Namra Jamil, a senior in the drones class at Thomas Edison High School.

The last category includes personal drone technology, which involves the usage of drones for entertainment or to obtain some type of income by selling footage captured by these drones .

Sami Dewan a senior at Thomas Edision describes his experience buying a drone as very easy. Dewan stated, “ All I had to do was research what drones are available without any regulation and then purchase it online.” Dewan needed to do this research because there are drones that you would actually need to get a licence for and register it with the FAA.

There are many regulations that are put in place by the FAA to regulate the drone industry. The FAA ensures that no matter whether you’re a new drone pilot or have years of experience there are rules and safety tips that can help you fly safely in the national airspace. If you are wondering what regulations you must follow as a drone pilot you can visit their website(https://www.faa.gov/uas/).

As technologies evolve drones will get safer and dependable and be the change for our communities.
