Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: The Youngest Woman Elected To Congress

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, also known by her initials, AOC, is a politician and activist who supports progressivism.

In the Spring of 2017, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was working behind a bar. “I was taking brunch orders, with the AC off, and people from progressive political groups were calling me,” she said in an interview.

In May, she had challenged Rep. Joseph Crowley(D-N.Y). She knew it would be a long-shot, but it was the only way to a political movement. She did, in fact, win the race to become a congress woman.

Ocasio-Cortez wanted to see new leadership and she knew her options weren’t limited. Even though she has gained a lot of national attention, her staff is still small and filled with young people. She hopes to tackle some of the world’s biggest problems; Climate change is a big one. Recently, she has faced many tech companies for their denial in climate change.

“Given the magnitude and urgency of the climate crisis that we are now facing, we find it imperative to ensure that the climate-related views espoused at LibertyCon do not reflect the values of your companies going forward,” the Congresswoman stated. She hopes that they will soon change their opinion on climate change.

“We can disagree on policy, but climate change is real,” she said on Twitter. She has been very dedicated on this topic.

Ocasio-Cortez is making many changes to our congress and is not stopping anytime soon. She believes that there should always be changes in our government. Being the youngest congresswoman to step foot in the House of Representatives, she has a long career ahead of her, this is just her beginning.
