The movie starts off with our protagonist Zach and his widowed mother moving in next door to the town hermit and his daughter Hannah (played Odeya Rush). Zach befriends Hannah and that’s when things begin to go wrong as they have their own little secret. Now with Jack Black taking up the role of R.L. Stine (Hannah’s father), their secrets unravel as we find out the villains from the series are monsters trapped within the manuscript. In the adaptation we have antagonist ranging from Slappy (Night of the Living Dummy) to the Abominable Snowman (The Abominable Snowman of Pasadena). The movie turns the books sense of horror into a comedic-action adventure as Zach and his friends try to capture the loose monsters and place them back in their rightful place.
