Abel Tesfaye better known as The Weeknd makes history as he is the only artist with 100 million monthly Spotify listeners. This statistically makes him the “most popular artist in the world” according to Guinness World Records. He surpasses other famous artists like Rhianna, Ariana Grande, and Taylor Swift.
The Weeknd started making music all the way back in 2011. He started gaining fans after he released his mixtape “House of Balloons”. He went on to collaborate with other popular artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Beyonce, Ariana Grande, and more. In 2020 he released his song “Blinding Lights” which got over 3.335 billion streams on Spotify.
“I do listen to The Weeknd and I think he earned this title since he has been making music for so long,” said Devani Shiwsankar.
“I don’t know much about The Weeknd but from what I’ve heard, he makes good music. Hearing that he is the most popular artist in the world makes me want to start listening to some of his music more,” said Devina Naidoo.
I believe that The Weeknd is deserving of this title. He makes great versatile music that anyone can enjoy. He’s collaborated with so many different artists making it impossible to not like one song by him. I have also attended his concert and it was a great experience. His voice is incredible and I am not surprised he was named the most popular artist in the world.
