American Skin

2020 has been a year of many historical events that have impacted the world to begin the decade. In all the chaotic distress we have faced, ‘Black Lives Matter’, has been the pivotal moment of the decade dating back to the civil war as it rose to protest around the world regarding inequality and injustice from law enforcement.

American Skin is a movie about a father and marine veteran named Lincoln Jefferson (Nate Parker) who works at a school as a janitor. He tries to restore his relationship with his son Kajani Jefferson (Tony Espinosa) after a divorce. He and his son are pulled over by police officers while commuting home and Kajani Jefferson ends up being shot and killed by one of the police officers. The officer is found innocent without standing trial and this pushes Lincoln to take matters into his own hands.

What I liked about this movie was that it goes into depth about everything that is happening with society now. It also goes into different people’s perspectives like the father, police officers, the female officer, prisoners, and even the citizens.

Mark Jurysek a senior at Edison said, “From the movie, people can explore the point of view that different people have. They can learn how law enforcement works.” He really liked that the movie is about one of the biggest issues that we face today which is police brutality and racial injustice.

The movie can be watched on Youtube, Google Play, Vudu, and Amazon Prime for $6.99.
