RISE of the Jack O’Lanterns

        In the spirit of Halloween, RISE of the Jack O’Lanterns has come to New York!  Old Westbury Gardens, located at 71 Old Westbury Road is the spot where 5,000 hand carved illuminated Jack O’Lanterns will be on display.  This family friendly Fall event is approximately an hour long trail that displays professional artists and sculptors depiction of TV and movie stars on pumpkins.  

        Jill Weinlein, a writer that attended RISE states, “The spookiest (pumpkins) are carved heads in boxes filled with liquid. Some of the most visited sections include the entire cast from The Big Bang Theory show and a pre-historic arrangement of life-sized dinosaurs.

        “Real or not, this event is spectacular!”, Weinlein continued.  In regards to the breath-taking pumpkins, carvable foam called “funkins” are utilized.  Nevertheless, sculptures still carve new pumpkins each week to avoid an funky lingering odors.  

        Old Westbury Garden continued to be open from October 22-25, 2015.  Adults aged 13-64 pay $26, children 3-12 and senior citizens pay $22, and children 2 and under go for free. RISE of the Jack O’Lanterns is an engrossing event that will get the entire family into the Halloween spirit, and also be of interest to those who would rather enjoy art and music rather than typical trick or treating
