The Uncommons: Board Games and Chill

The Uncommons is Manhattan’s only board game cafe that is an inexpensive place to chill with your friends and have fun at the same time.

As soon as you enter The Uncommons, you will see all the board games surrounding the wall. They have a food selection such as coffee, latte, tea, chai, fresh pastries, sandwiches, and wraps. However, people come to The Uncommons to experience all the games rather than the food. It costs $5 per person to play for an unlimited amount of time with all those games. They have special events at night where people reserve their seats to compete and win prizes. For example, Wednesdays is where they have the “Dungeons and Dragons” event.

There is a huge selection of games that are stacked on top of one another until it almost reaches the ceiling. You will find the popular games such as Cards Against Humanity, Monopoly, Scrabble, Sorry, Scattergories, 5 Second Rule, and Taboo. Yet, there are so many more options that you can choose from. For instance, if you are a fan of the show Game of Thrones, you will find at least three board games that relate to it. They have Star Wars and Lord of the Rings board games too. Many games that you’ve never even heard of is there for you to play and enjoy.

“There are so many games to explore here that no one knows about. Nowadays, people are so busy on their phones that when they come to The Uncommons, they forget that board games can be so much fun and they don’t notice the time passing by,” said Jonathan Amar, a barista from The Uncommons.

The Uncommons is located at Thompson Street between 3rd Street and Bleecker Street at Greenwich Village. It’s a cheap place to go with your friends, family, and on a date. They offer free wifi and you can make a reservation ahead of time. You can even come by yourself and meet new people where you can bond through the games you play together. It’s a great place to socialize and interact with people where your competitiveness nature comes out.
